Baljeet's Beats
The image above is the arrangement view of my song I organized my tracks by each instrument.
I first looked at the loops found in the Loops for live folder that was given to us to start. I found drum loops that were slow paced but with energy. I decided to shape the rest of my song around these types of sounds. I added bright saxophones and horns to make the mood brighter. To make the song flow better I added drum fills. For the extra clip, I added a clip from the bee movie where Barry B Benson says “ya like jazz” the piece is very jazzy and I felt that it tied the whole piece together.
From this project I learned more about music theory and transposing music between keys. The thing I enjoyed most about the piece was how it came together very well. Before this I didn’t know about transposing music so my loops in past music compositions didn’t fit as well together. I also enjoyed the freedom that was given for this project. I had three different compositions for this project all with their own distinct qualities which speaks to the freedom given .

Chariots of Fire Project
This image above is of the arrangement view of my song the "A part" and "B part" are the melody of chariots of fire while "Base 1" and "Base 2" are the baseline.
In this project we started by playing the chariots of fire music in a MIDI track with an mp3 of the actual song as a frame. I labeled the parts of chariots of fire and then color coded them to make it organized. We then took out the mp3 and I started adding different MIDI sounds to the tracks. After I picked sounds I found some beats and added them to the tracks. I then took part of the melody and added another sound to it on another track to compliment what I had. After that I placed compressors and equalizers on each track.
From this project I learned how to use the beat repeat tool and used it on the baseline of the song. I also learned how to play sheet music on the Ableton push. When I imported the mp3 of chariots of fire I needed to make it fit on beat for a 136bpm song, and I learned how to do so with the warp tool. The final thing I leaned when making this song was the importance of keeping my tracks organized and labeled and separate so they can be manipulated and worked on easily.

Horror Movie Project
The image above is my music in arrange view in Abelton with the main melody being on the purple track with effects on the others.. Below is a short "horror" Movie with my composition.
To start the project I first thought of what horror movie type I wanted to make. I was inspired by the movie Alien which I had recently watched so I decided to make a sci fi horror movie about aliens. I then looked on We video for stock clips of alien or alien related things like spaceships. I came across a funny clip of a man in a tinfoil hat screaming and was inspired to have comedic elements in the movie. I found mostly what I wanted on We video, but needed some more video clips/ pictures so I did a google image search. When searching I found a funny picture of a man in a coffin working on his laptop and incorporated it as a comedic element.
In this project I enjoyed learning to use the Alchemy and listening to the new sounds that could be made in Alchemy. The biggest challenges of this project were making something that I felt fit the movie I had made. The notes I played had to emit a scary and mysterious feel, and to achieve this I made sure I was using 7ths between notes. The other part of this challenge was the right sounds for the notes to fit the alien vibe. This challenge was overcome by just searching and testing many of the sounds in Alchemy with many different clips to see what would fit the movie.

Chord Sequences Project
The image above is of my composition in arrange view in Abelton. The tracks labeled with roman numerals are the chord sequences with their corresponding capital or lowercase letter. The top three tracks are with break beats I found that worked with the song
The first part of this project was listening to and learning about breaks. After inserting breaks, I learned about chord progression starting with triads in the Key of C. Then later we were introduced to other chord progressions using the Chromawheel. After experimenting with chords I moved on into making the bassline using the lowest three notes from the triad. After both of those steps I added MIDI tracks to the notes to fit the Mood of the breaks. After that, I added a marimba track in midi as a Melody. Finally, I mixed the tracks by panning, adding a compressor, and Equalizing the tracks.
When making this project, I learned how to make triads in C and in other keys. I relearned how to use an equalizer and a compressor. In this project I enjoyed learning about triads and experimenting with them and adding arpeggiators. Another thing I enjoyed was relearning all of the small Ableton things I may not have remembered.
